a message from juliya
hey you'll, here's an update from juliya about a mountaintop removal event that's coming up in louisville. spread the word!:
Hey girls, how's it going? i wanna let you and the rest of your environmental club about an MTR info session/fundraiser coming up April 3 at the Brick House. It's a book signing by Eric Reese, who's written magazine articles and a book about mountaintop removal, and has really helped get the issue into the media. It's going to mostly be a fundraiser, but it will also be a good time to get together with other people who want to stop MTR and make plans for the future.
mountain justice summer is going to be focused on local and regional coordinated actions this summer -- there will be particular days that folks all over appalachia, and the world, will put on autonomous, independent events, rallies, etc. it will be good to start making connections in town, and around kentucky, to make this possible.
please forward this around, since i only have you two's email adds. my number is 548-0638 if you want to get in touch with me. i could also use some help organizing the event, so let me know if you have some time to help out. thanks, see ya soon

memo to sweet surrender: eat our dust/amazing scones
woah! extremely eventful day in environmental club world. here's a quick breakdown:
last thursday: talked with my girl scout leader (yes, girl scouts) about a large amount of coke tabs that she has been collecting from her church which have been accumulating in her backyard for a couple years now. she said that i COULD HAVE THEM ALL!! because she doesn't know what to do with them.
monday: received written permission from principal saying that we are allowed to collect coke tabs in the freshman and senior cafeterias.
tuesday: bake sale with about 10 different types of treats including chocolate chip scones (recipe given by the multi-talented kate reed) that raised about $31 dollars.
tuesday afternoon: so when my mother picked me up from environmental club we drove by this recycling company downtown to drop off 4 HUGE bins of the coke tabs that i got from my scout leader. they paid $.35 per pound which i thought was pretty good. but just in those 4 bins i had 61 pounds!
SCORE! that means $21.35 for environmental club!! plus i have like twice as many STILL in our garage.
key words of that last sentence: TWICE AS MANY!
anyhoo, today was basically just grand grand grand. we also, have decided that we are going to start branching off into smaller, more in-depth groups which i find mucho exciting and effective.

le triumphant bake sale
extrememly proud to report that yesterday environmental club had a marvelously effective meeting and sold $41.50 worth of baked goods at their weekly bake sale!
after we picked up around the surprisingly littery Manual High School, we had a group meeting in the shady luciousness of a nearby tree. it was there that we dicussed possible idea to better involve the club in the local environment and monumentally; the world. so, next week we plan to sort through these ideas written by the lovely, mara brown, into "long term" and "short term" goals.
well, high five for environmental club!
that's wednesdays in dr. crawfords room.

chuck taylors don't got NOTHIN on enviornmental friendly rain boots.
WOAH! how happy am i that enviornmental club is still alive this early in the year (contrary to knitting club) ??: very EXTREMELY SUPER AMAZINGLY HAPPY!
moses, if you had given me a pair of enviornmental friendly rubber boots to wear in this 3 feet of rain outside, i COULD NOT have been any happier.
i truly think you all are superb, especially that victor boy who was the VERY FIRST boy to join the club this year. what balls!
anyhoo, i'm sending my lovin' towards the green thumbs of manual
business! Current Mood: pimped out
God, guys. I would be all over this envioclub thing if it weren't for theremin practice every from 3:00 to 9:53. You're all are so hot. Especially Sarah McLaughlin.
what a wonderful day for mosquitos
even though it rained for a majority of the day and every louisvillian probably received no less than 2 dozen raindrops on their head throughout the day, it's a lovely/busy day for envornmental club.
example #1: myself and ms. anna are making the pimped out "come join enviornmental club" posters that will be popping up later on this week.
ohh. and i'm scouting out for one of those huge plastic water containers that you see in office's sometime. they look like the kind here: http://www.arcticchiller.com/Images/ArcticChiller189Liter.jpg
all we need is ONE empty bottle. the size doesn't really matter, but if you know someone who has one- tell me about it!
we're planning on filling up the bottle with soda tabs and then once the bottle is full; donating them to an enviornmental fund. and we're going to have flyers about where exactly where we are donating so kids can learn about what a great cause it is. yep, it'll be grand.
also, bake sale next tuesday. i really wish i could urge the green kids to bake healthy snacks to sell, but that seems to be a turn-off to some students. my reaction: CREEPY!
and somebody totally said they were going to bring a container so the money we earn since last year it was all jean pockets. was it ms. caroline?? hmm. Current Mood: magically terrific
